Eucalyptus Summer Beauty Eucalyptus Summer Red
These beautiful gum trees have been created by selecting from crosses of Eucalyptus ptychocarpa and Eucalyptus ficofolia. The result is small growing gum trees that have massed heads of stunning flower. Depending on the soil type these gums will reach about 6m and will flower when quite small. They are hardy with few pests and only need minimal care when established. Pruning when young will ensure that a straight trunk is formed. They do require staking when young but they need to be allowed some movement to help stem development. They attract birds when in flower and are suitable for grove planting. They create a dappled shade that allows under planting of most Australian natives.

Eucalyptus Summer Red |
This picture was taken on an overcast day of two grafted Eucalyptus in my own garden. The paler flowering gum is E. Summer Glory and the other is E. Summer Red. They are about two years old from 200mm pots and have not received any special care other than a light prune to shape and mulching with forest mulch
They flower throughout the year with a heavy flowering in late Spring.
